The Wicked movie has been on a mega press tour this week, but it would appear all press is not good after Babrbie makers Mattel made a WICKED mistake.
The doll makers, have had to apologise for unintentionally promoting an adult website on the back of their Wicked movie dolls, which use the likenesses of Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.
Mattel mistakenly printed the link directing to the adult site, rather than ‘wickedmovie.com’, the packaging only had the word “wicked."
And it turns out that mistake has also made its way to New Zealand.
One member of the ‘Kmart & The Warehouse Hacks & Decor NZ’ Facebook page has shared a warning to parents, writing: “Heads Up… If you are planning to buy the Mattel Wicked Doll range...Please BEWARE of the website on the back of the box is NOT children friendly. It's an adult site - you must be 18 plus (It's one of those websites)."
“This is shocking,” said one commenter. “They need to recall these. I would not be happy if my children stumbled upon a website like this! 😳”
Another wrote: “Wowzers it must be bad lol! We have ‘Family Filter’ on our internet and I just tried Googled it to find out what it was, and got a big fat ‘No’ from Google, lol.”
“🤦♀️How...How did THAT get past the final inspections of the product? 🤣 Someone knew what they were doing,” a third suggested.
According to TMZ, Mattel have since apologised for the mistake, telling customers: “They deeply regret the error and are taking action to ensure no future dolls have the incorrect URL on the back.”
If you’ve already picked up one of these dolls and notice the mistake, Mattel suggest binning the box or taking a sharpie to the link.
What an mortifying mistake to make though, eh?
