The kids’ - and secretly our - favourite blue heeler pup is getting her very first movie.
Confirmed today by BBC Studios and The Walt Disney Company, ‘Bluey’ is hitting the big screen - but we will have to wait a wee while.
No specific date has been set for the film, but a press release confirmed it will be released in 2027.
“The movie will continue the adventures of Bluey, the loveable, inexhaustible, blue heeler dog, who lives with her Mum, Dad and her little sister, Bingo,” the official release reads.
The actors behind the popular kids TV show are also set to voice the movie including Melanie Zanetti and David McCormack as Bluey’s mum and dad, Chilli and Bandit Heeler.
Director and creator Joe Brumm will also taking the leash on the big production, too.
“I’ve always thought ‘Bluey’ deserved a theatrical movie. I want this to be an experiential event for the whole family to enjoy together,” Brumm says.
The film will roll out on Disney+ after its initial run in cinemas. ‘Bluey’ is 2024’s most-watched series globally on the streaming platform, and it’s no surprise with how much kids all across the globe love her - including NZ.
Remember when a Bunnings Warehouse in Auckland transformed into the real-life version of Hammerbarn’ from the show?
Back in February Kiwi kids got the chance to meet Bluey and Bingo in person, getting involved with heaps of in-store scavenger hunts and even pick up some special Hammerbarn merch and garden gnomes.
The hype was crazy about the stuff.
If you can’t wait for the release of the movie, ‘Bluey’ is taking stages all around the country in ‘Bluey’s Big Play The Stage Show’.
Spreading across eight dates, Bluey and her crew will be heading to Dunedin, Wellington, Christchurch, Hamilton and Auckland in April 2025.
