Timothée Chalamet is a step closer to staking his claim as a Hollywood great after the trailer for the upcoming Bob Dylan biopic showed he has some serious acting and singing chops.
‘A Complete Unknown’ is directed by James Mangold (known for the Johnny Cash biopic ‘Walk The Line’) and stars Edward Norton, Elle Fanning, and Monica Barbaro alongside Chalamet.
In the trailer, Chalamet adopts Dylan’s signature accent and style with ease, and yes -that’s him singing.
Despite the expectations of taking on such an iconic role, Chalamet's performance is so far going down well with fans.
“The Bob Dylan impression was way better than I expected,” one comment on the trailer read.
A self-proclaimed "Bob Dylan obsessive" agreed, writing: “I'm telling you right now that Timothee NAILED this.”
The first glimpses at the 28-year-old actor's portrayal has already prompted talk of Oscar nominations, with one fan pointing out: “If Chamalet wins the Oscar, he's going to be the youngest winner for the category”.
The trailer alone pretty much guarantees an Oscar nomination.
Not everyone was on board, however. “We had not only the perfect Bob Dylan movie but also the perfect music biopic in 2007 with ‘I'm Not There’," one person wrote online.
“This movie isn’t going to top that”.
The biopic will be released in New Zealand on the 23rd of January, 2025.
It’s safe to say we’ll be seated for this one.
