‘Love Island All Stars’ contestant Marcel Somerville has spoken about the “shocking” conversation he had to have with his ex-wife ahead of returning to the show.
Before heading back to the villa in search of love, Marcel was married and, as revealed in his entrance interview, he’s currently going through the process of divorce.
After his breakup with season three girlfriend Gabby Allen, Marcel began dating Rebecca Vieira.
The pair welcomed their son Roman in January 2021, before tying the knot in August 2022.
However, just two years later the couple split in March last year after it was revealed that Rebecca had cheated on Marcel with US rapper Slim Jxmmi, best known as one-half of the duo Rae Sremmurd.
Despite his ongoing divorce, Marcel took the opportunity to appear on ‘All Stars’ in hopes of finding love and “building confidence”.
But with that came the awkward conversation with his ex and the mother of his child.
He told The Tab: “Of course I told her. There was no way I could go on and not tell her. I’m not just going to disappear.”
He added his toddler Roman would definitely need to know where he was because “daddy is on TV now.”
“It probably came as a shock to her,” Marcel said but explained he had reached a crossroads.
“Either [I] stay in an unhappy relationship or move on. I moved on, and other opportunities arose.
He explained that 2024 had been tough for him, but Rebecca had acknowledged her infidelity.
“She realised her mistakes led to me being at this point. She’s accepted it. I don’t think I should be scrutinised for moving on with my life. I won’t put my life on hold for years whilst [divorce] paperwork gets done.”
Marcel initially left Love Island 2017 with Gabby, but their relationship ended 10 months later after it was revealed he had cheated on her with another woman while they were both staying at a hotel on holiday.
The pair have now reunited, coupled up by the public on the latest ‘All Stars’ series.
It’s unclear whether they’ll rekindle their romance, but with the old flames reconnecting around the fire pit, who knows what could happen.
