As summer rolls around and the weather gets warmer, surfers are beginning to return to beaches up and down the country.
After moving to New Zealand's West Coast, Paul Clement, a dairy farmer in Hokitika, noticed the absence of a Surfing for Farmers group, so decided to take initiative and establish one himself in 2022.
Now in its third season, Clement says the program offers local farmers a refreshing break from farm life with surfboards, coaching, and community barbecues at the Cobden breakwater in Greymouth.
He explains the initiative as a crucial outlet for stress relief and community building, particularly for those in rural communities as a chance to get away from the farm and destress.
