Farmers Weekly Senior Journalist Neal Wallace has recently returned from his 'Meeting the Market' tour, visiting seven countries in six weeks, revealing the growing demand for sustainable farming practices.
Recounting his journey, Wallace discovered that major players like McDonald's, Nestlé, and Mars Wrigley are driving a push for verifiable sustainability metrics, prompting a call for New Zealand farmers to adopt streamlined verification systems.
He says his tour also highlighted potential shifts in global trade, such as a Trump victory and protectionist policies, impacting New Zealand's exports.
Wallace emphasises the critical need for New Zealand's agricultural sector to adapt to global demands and maintain its competitive edge.
He also touches on some of the things he learnt while on his travels including the innovative methane reduction projects in the Netherlands and the dynamic Middle Eastern market.
