The best spots in NZ to pick your own berries this summer

No gatekeeping here, we have to share!

Picking your own berries is the perfect summer activity - whether it's to find the most delicious fresh fruit in the country or simply snap a cute pic for the ‘gram.

We asked you where the BEST strawberry spots are across New Zealand, and there are certainly a few around the country.

THE BEST BERRY PICKING PLACES IN NZ:

Good Planet | Auckland

Less than half an hour out of Auckland CBD in Riverhead, Good Planet has a strong variety of PYO (pick-your-own) options, including strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, boysenberries, and blueberries all available -  though it can vary depending on the day

We’re not sure what’s better with Good Planet, their train ride to the picking fields or being allowed to eat the berries as you pick (because let’s be honest, we all do it anyway).

Ruakura Berry Farm | Waikato

You can’t go past a place described by locals as “big, juicy, and delicious” - everything you want in a strawberry. Less than half an hour out of Hamilton, Ruakura Berry Farm describes itself as the one-stop shop for all fresh-picked berries and real fruit ice creams, a combination you can’t go wrong with.

If you’re not passing through Ruakura this summer, keep an eye on their page for pop-up events throughout the Waikato.

Kaimiro Farm |  Taranaki

Kaimiro Farm came up as one of the most popular suggestions, and it’s not hard to see why. Located under the beautiful Mount Taranaki, (when the mountain decides to show itself) their spray-free strawberries are quickly becoming a local favourite

It also may have something to do with them allowing us to eat while you pick - which is a dangerous game for any berry lover.

Hedgerows Strawberries | Marlborough

Marlborough might be best known for its wine, but strawberries are quickly becoming a must-visit attraction in the region, thanks to Hedgerows and their hydroponically grown strawberries (using water rather than soil).

“Beautiful, sweet, and delicious,” is how they’re described, which causes queues throughout the day, so getting in early is recommended.

Red Bridge Berries | Wanaka

The South Island may have slimmer pickings when it comes to PYO berries due to harsher weather conditions, but Red Bridge Berries near Wanaka is a hidden gem.

Despite a delayed opening this season, one review got us excited about the view saying  “a big farm with stunning scenery while picking strawberries.”

A quick scroll through their Instagram from last season featured their viral strawberries and chocolate combo, which makes it a must-do when visiting Central Otago this summer.

I'm sure I won't be the only one living off Strawberries until February
