A whopping 10 years worth of staff who have worked at McDonald's across the country could be in for some extra cash.
Back in 2016, MBIE audited a bunch of Kiwi companies and found that many - including Macca's - needed to switch up how they handled leave and holiday pay to align with the Holidays Act 2003.
In 2019, Unite Union estimated McDonald's NZ owed upwards of a jaw-dropping $45 million to around 60,000 staff.
If you've clocked in at Macca's anytime between November 1, 2009 and December 6, 2020, it's worth checking if you're owed even just a few bucks.
One of our gals here actually scored herself $74.72!
She worked at her local Macca's between 2016-2017 and wasn't sure if she'd get anything, but after seeing a TikTok and her ex-coworkers sharing their own payouts on social media, she thought: "Okay, surely I get some cash too."
The McDonald's NZ website now confirms: "The fast food chain has got approval from the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) to begin remediation relating to annual leave and holiday annual leave pay for employees who worked at McDonald's between November 1 2009 and December 6, 2020."
You just need to have your IRD number on hand for the 'Check My Remediation Payment' on the McDonald's payroll website.
However, McDonald's NZ spokesperson Simon Kenney told Stuff that not everyone who worked there over the last decade will get a payout - But it doesn't hurt to check, right?!
