Jackie Clarke, Tina Cross and Suzanne Lynch - AKA The Lady Killers - took a breather from their nationwide tour, DIVAS!, to give insight into the tenacity needed to survive for nearly 20 years in show business.
Appearing on the latest episode of 'Grey Areas with Petra Bagust’, one third of the group and former NZ Idol judge Jackie Clarke, spoke about taking on new challenges.
“If you’re not giving yourself the sh*ts, you’re not really living, are you?” She asked.
“If we'd stayed in a comfortable place, we would have all retired 30 years ago. Because for women in this business, the pasture is always just the other side of the window and someone's always wanting to put you out to pasture.”
“But we want to keep singing and we'll keep singing for as long as it gives us pleasure, and it's hugely pleasurable. But the reason it's so pleasurable is because it's so petrifying… I love it.”
When they [the audience] see us… they see themselves. They see all our history and wobbly arms and fat guts and double-chins and wrinkles…
“We are still going for it like 18 year olds, pulling no punches, taking no prisoners – just going for it,” Jackie added.
Former member of 60s band The Chicks, Suzanne Lynch, also opened up about rejecting retirement.

“Well, I can't spell retirement, so no, it doesn't work for me … Sometimes I think, oh, it would be nice to just sit at home and have the grandkids around,” she reflects.
“But I miss what we do too much - that feeling of being on stage and just the camaraderie that we have. You know, I've always had camaraderie with other musicians and singers, but nothing like these two girls.
“So they'll be wheeling me out in a wheelchair, Jackie says so. Hopefully I can keep singing.”
Elsewhere in the interview, the trio spoke about their on-stage magic, finding rest, menopause, and the power of friendship.
