What a great announcement during Te Wiki o te Reo Māori!
The beloved animated classic Shrek is set to be dubbed into te reo Māori, with its world premiere scheduled for the Māoriland Film Festival in March 2025.
It has also been confirmed that there will be a series of screenings across the motu after the world premiere.
Libby Hakaraia, Māoriland producer, shared her excitement about the project in a statement on the film festival's website:
"We are hugely excited to re-imagine this phenomenal and captivating story, which has captured the hearts of families worldwide, in te reo Māori."
Since 2001, Shrek has been dubbed into over 40 languages and now DreamWork Animation is dropping it in te reo Māori for the first time. This is also the first time DreamWorks Animation is adapting one of their movies into te reo Māori!
