One Direction fans are hitting out at Spotify’s new AI-wrapped podcasts for “out of pocket” comments disregarding the death of Liam Payne.
The new feature, which uses AI to chat through your 2024 music habits, sounded like a cool idea - until it wasn’t.
While some users love the personalised touch, others are cringing at the way it handled one of the biggest celebrity deaths of the year.
Fans were absolutely shattered and turned to One Direction’s music for comfort. As a result, the band popped up in A LOT of Spotify Wrapped stats this year.
In a viral TikTok clip, the AI hosts hyped up one user’s One Direction listening streak, and it’s gone down like a cup of cold sick.
You can hear one AI host say: “It’s so cool you know, One Direction are classics.”
“And you even had a seven-day listening streak,” adds the other. “Seven days straight? That’s some serious dedication.”
The second voice then gets to speculating why. “I wonder if that coincided with the release of something, maybe a new album or a reunion. It would be really awesome if that happened. It would be a great thing,” the first AI voice is heard again.
“Maybe there was a One Direction marathon happening?”
“Maybe you just really love One Direction and just listen to them all the time,” it continued.
The TikTok user was left unimpressed as they captioned the video: “I don’t think that’s what it coincided with, tbh”.
Another Spotify user shared on X that her AI hosts questioned if something went on in October to cause the spike.
Read. The. Room.
Naturally, fans are less than impressed with the feature, with one TikTok commenter writing: “OUT OF POCKET.”
“Mine literally said ‘you loved one direction…. But October seemed like a hard month for you’. OK bye,” said another.
A third added: “Oh, this is diabolical 😭😭😭.”
While the AI can’t apologise, people are now waiting to see if Spotify has anything to say about the mess.
